My all time favorite Tiger remains Cecil Fielder. He was a giant during an otherwise dismal period in Tiger history. My best Tiger memory is working with my pops in the garage during a late summer/early fall evening and listening to the last game of the 1990 season. Cecil needed 1 home run to get to 50 (this was a relatively dead ball era, and nobody had hit 50 since 1977). He hit 2 that night in dramatic fashion to end the season at 51.
Cecil hit booming, high rising, majestic home runs. He was fun to watch and had a calm, warm, gentlemanly demeanor. Those Ponys were sweet too.
Running out singles and doubles were not his forte. Easy jogging around the basepath was, I think, his greatest motivation for hitting homers.
