The Tigers have won 6 games in a row and it seems most everything is suddenly going their way. Thames is hitting the hell out of the ball, the Inge/Rodriguez platoon at catcher is working to keep them both fresh and engaged, the starting pitching has been solid, and the bullpen is getting healthy.
One thing that may be a bit under the radar is the fact that Carlos Guillen has evolved into a top level defensive third baseman. The first couple of months were rocky, starting out at first base and then shifting to third. Many of the team’s early season struggles may have been tied to the inconsistencies in the infield. But with Cabrera getting better at first, Guillen eating everything up at third, and Inge settling into his role as platoon catcher, I think this team may finally be on the right track.
This team is on Fi-yuh!
First, kudos on the pic of Radar O’Reilly. And kudos again.
I’m just hoping that Carlos doesn’t die of an accidental choking while rounding third going for home. This is a tangent… but is it just me or does it not seem that more and more ball players are going back to the chew. For a long stretch there, it was nothing but Big League Chew and sunflower seeds. I mean I am sure they do whatever off the field, but it seems like the huge hunk of crap is lodged in everyone’s mouth nowadays. And Frankly, it’s disgusting. I mention this because Carlos always looks like he has the whole tobacco plant in there. Eww…
p.s. Go Tigers!
yeah, chewin’ is fun.
If chew gets the bats going, spit away fellas. I can imagine a team meeting where Leyland tried to explain to the team how tobacco is bad for you as he puffs away at 5 Marlboros simultaneously.
Major opportunity by Granderson to seal his nickname with a game-tying Grand Slam, but a base hit will suffice.
GrandBaseHitterson just doesn’t quite sound very tough.
